President Thaçi: Strategic Partnership increased trade exchanges to 200 million euros

Tirana, October 03, 2016 – The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, in the framework of his official visit to the Republic of Albania, has also met with the Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama.

President Thaçi said that the bilateral cooperation of Kosovo and Albania is governed by the brotherly approach and the mutual interest to deepen the political, economic and cultural interaction, as well as to advance the process of integration into the European Union, being this a basic project in the service of peace, stability and development.

He declared that after the bilateral agreements and the joint meetings of the two governments, the trade exchanges between the two countries have reached the amount of 200 million euros.

“The strategic cooperation and partnership have given a more concrete dimension to the intergovernmental dialogue and action, with the aim of implementing the joint strategic policies”, said President Thaçi.

Whereas, the Prime Minister of Albania, Edi Rama, stressed that also important in this middle is the cooperation in the framework of the Berlin Process for the Western Balkans, because since the meeting in Berlin in August 2014, the European Union has supported a significant number of central corridors of the infrastructure that will connect the ports, airports and the key points of the economy in the countries of the Western Balkans.

“Regional cooperation is key to peace, stability and development in our region”, said Prime Minister Rama.

Among these projects, President Thaçi said that special importance has also the  infrastructural project Durres-Prishtina-Niš and the ensurance of support for regional cooperation initiatives.

Furthermore, the Head of State stressed that Kosovo will continue with the full normalization of relations with Serbia as well, since the only solution, he said, is to continue the dialogue.

The normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia, according to President Thaçi, also affects regional stability and the strengthening of relations between the countries of the region.

“We are committed for the normalization of our relations through dialogue, because only through dialogue we strengthen the state of Kosovo as well”, he said.

President Thaçi concluded that it is important for the entire region to be determined for membership in the European Union.
