President Thaçi received the NATO Deputy Secretary General, talked about deepening cooperation

Prishtina, October 27 – The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Mr. Hashim Thaçi, received today the NATO Deputy Secretary General, Ms. Rose E. Gottemoeller, with whom he discussed about the deepening of cooperation between Kosovo and NATO and the role of Kosovo as a factor of peace and stability in the region.

President Thaçi stated that Kosovo welcomed the membership of Montenegro in NATO and welcomes the opportunity for Macedonia to enter into NATO as soon as possible.

“The sooner our region becomes part of NATO, the peace in the region will be more stable”, said President Thaçi.

Speaking about the transformation of the KSF, President Thaçi stated that there is being worked on the implementation of all the criteria that must be met to transform the KSF into the Armed Forces of Kosovo.

“We are developing an all-inclusive consultation and information process. We will exhaust all possibilities so that the transformation shall be made through constitutional changes, with the participation of all the communities of Kosovo”, stated President Thaçi.

Deputy Secretary-General Gottemoeller said that NATO remains committed to peace and stability in Kosovo and the region and added that KFOR will stay in Kosovo as long as necessary.

President Thaçi said that NATO’s role in Kosovo and the region is irreplaceable, but it is also necessary to work for Kosovo to become part of NATO.
