President Thaçi met with the Austrian Chancellor Kurz, Commissioner Hahn and President Vucic

Vienna, August 26th – President of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, had a joint meeting with the Chancellor of Austria Sebastian Kurtz, EU Enlargement Commissioner Johannes Hahn and with the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic.

As the host of this meeting, the Austrian Chancellor, stated that Austria during its EU Presidency, will have as one of its priorities the enlargement and good neighbourhood policies, alongside those of security and migration.

Another issue which was a primary focal point of this meeting was the dialogue on normalisation of relations between Kosovo and Serbia, mediated by EU. In relation to this process, Chancellor Kurz encouraged the two presidents to continue with the endeavours towards reaching of an agreement.

“Achievement of the agreement is the main precondition for membership of both countries in EU. Austria supports the dialogue and the achievement of the agreement as well as the integration of the countries of the western Balkans in EU”, stated Kurz. President of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, expressed his appreciation to Austria for its help in Kosovo’s EU integration process and for the achievement of the eventual peaceful agreement with Serbia.

The head of state added that Kosovo, with determination, will fulfil the EU membership criteria and will undertake serious efforts to achieve a peaceful legal agreement with Serbia.

“The support of Austria and other EU member states, the continuous support of the USA on the achievement of the agreement are crucial at this final stage of this difficult but necessary process”, said President Thaçi.

During his stay in Austria, President Thaçi has also had meetings with many other representatives of the EU member states, of the states of the region, and with various professors, scientists and other eminent personalities from around the world.
