President Thaçi met the leader of the opposition in Albania, Lulzim Basha

Tirana, October 03, 2016 - In the context of the state visit to Albania, the President of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, has held a meeting with the leader of the opposition, the President of the Democratic Party, Lulzim Basha.

President Thaçi thanked President Basha and the Democratic Party for the support given to Kosovo, both while governing, and now as opposition.

“I am happy that whenever it comes to Kosovo in the Albanian Assembly, all parties come together and put aside the differences or party interests”, said President Thaçi, who informed the President of the Democratic Party about the political developments and the challenges of Kosovo within the Euro-Atlantic integration processes.

President Thaçi and the leader of the Democratic Party, Lulzim Basha, also discussed about the demarcation with Montenegro and the Association of Municipalities with Serb majority, topics these that have dominated in the political debate in Kosovo during the last year.

Also, the leader of the opposition in Albania informed the President of Kosovo on the main issues of domestic politics in the country and the main concerns affecting the opposition.

During the meeting, President Thaçi and President Basha also discussed about the current level of cooperation between the two countries, with special emphasis on the possibilities of expanding this cooperation.

President Basha confirmed that the Democratic Party will do as much as possible within its space to help Kosovo’s state-building, increasing the number of recognitions and, in particular, Kosovo’s membership in international organizations.

“We support all the actions that accelerate the processes of Kosovo’s membership in NATO and the European Union”, confirmed Basha.
