President Thaçi met Minister Freeland, they discussed about international cooperation

Ottawa, Canada, November 23 – The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, in the framework of the meetings with the highest officials of the state of Canada, also met with the Foreign Minister of Canada, Ms. Chrystia Freeland, with whom he discussed about the bilateral cooperation, but also on the international stage.

President Thaçi expressed his satisfaction that he is conducting the visit at the time when Canada is marking the 150th anniversary of the Confederation’s establishment and has had the opportunity to give an assessment of Canada’s commitment to peace in the world.

“I visited the military camp in Halifax, where Kosovo refugees were received during the war. I met Canadians who have contributed to peace in Kosovo and in the world”, said President Thaçi.

The President stated that Kosovo is grateful for the support that Canada has given for decades and added that this friendship is the foundation of the cooperation that needs to be further deepened, especially in economy and security.

Speaking about Kosovo’s achievements, President Thaçi said that Kosovo is now consolidated within and is working to conclude the consolidation of the state on the international scene as well.

“Russia is aggressively opposing the citizenship of Kosovo, as in the case of Suriname”, said President Thaçi and invited for greater support and coordination on the international scene with all the friendly states.

“Let us cooperate in lobbying for new recognitions and membership in other international organizations”, said President Thaçi.

Minister Freeland stated that Canada is a friend of Kosovo.

“You can always count on Canada’s support”, said Minister Freeland, adding that “it is impressive what Kosovo has achieved, especially when considering the challenges through which it has passed”.

President Thaçi said that Kosovo is determined for NATO and EU membership and added that the region’s rapid integration into NATO and the EU is the best way to stop the infiltration of anti-western ideologies in the Western Balkans.

“Our future is in NATO and the EU. The earlier we enter into NATO and the EU, the entire region, the sooner the door and the opportunity will be closed to destabilize the region both to Russia and all other anti-Western ideologies”, said President Thaçi
