New York, September 21, 2017 – The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, in the framework of the United Nations General Assembly week, met today with the Secretary-General of the International Organisation of La Francophonie, Michaëlle Jean.

Accompanied by the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Behgjet Pacolli, President Thaçi congratulated Secretary Jean for her increased work and commitment in keeping peace and security in the francophone sphere.

The Head of State praised her initiatives for the increased involvement of young people and women in global processes, for prioritizing employment for these two groups, prioritizing innovation and technology as instruments for creating equal opportunities for economic development and employment. He congratulated Secretary Jean for the powerful promotion of the values of the International Organisation of La Francophonie, to which Kosovo joined in 2014 as an observer state.

“Kosovo wants to be more advanced in the Francophonie activities and strongly supports the initiative for the modification of the organisation’s statutes with the aim of the larger inclusion of the observer states in the organization’s instances. Kosovo aims at full membership in the organization and is therefore committed to work towards the fulfilment of the required criteria for the modification of the status in the near future”, said President Thaçi during the meeting with the Secretary-General of the Francophonie Organisation, Michaëlle Jean, whom he invited for a visit to Kosovo.
