President Thaçi met in New York with the Prime Minister of Malta, Joseph Muscat

New York, September 19, 2017 – The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, as Head of the delegation of Kosovo, met today also with the Prime Minister of Malta, Joseph Muscat, in the framework of the meetings of the next session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

President Thaçi, accompanied by the First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Behgjet Pacolli, expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Muscat for the continuous support from Malta for the consolidation process of Kosovo.
 
He said that Kosovo is committed to the main objective of its foreign policy - membership into the European Union.
 
“We need to move forward in the European integration process and it is important for the EU to reform the current enlargement process. We need all the countries of the region to be able to open negotiations in the next two to three years, including Kosovo. Thus, obtaining the status of a candidate country can open a clear European perspective for Kosovo”, said President Thaçi.
 
At the meeting there was discussed about the importance of the approximation of the EU and NATO with the Western Balkan states, about the recognition of Kosovo from the five EU member states, about the support of Malta for the recognition of Kosovo by certain states and about the membership of the country in international organizations
 
Also, President Thaçi and Prime Minister Muscat talked about attracting foreign direct investments, as an important part of the vision and strategy for Kosovo’s economic development, especially after the adoption of the Law on Strategic Investments by the Kosovo Assembly.
 
There was said that Kosovo and Malta should, in the near future, organize a joint economic forum that would provide a good opportunity for the business community to invest and promote the growth of trade volume between the two countries.
