President Thaçi meets with the Chairman of the Prosecutorial Council and the Chief State Prosecutor

President of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi met today with the Chairman of the Prosecutorial Council, Blerim Isufaj, and the Chief State Prosecutor, Aleksander Lumezi.

President Thaçi reaffirmed the cooperation of the Office of the President with these two important state institutions and congratulated them on the recent legislative amendments, which ensured a clear distinction between them.

“It is important for the council to strengthen its supervisory role”, President Thaçi stressed during the discussion with the chairman of the Prosecutorial Council, Isufaj.

While commending the Office of the Chief State Prosecutor for a more efficient functioning of the State Prosecutor, President Thaçi said that this office should lead the efforts in combating crime, especially serious crimes. 

“Fighting corruption, organized crimes and high-profile crimes have an impact on overall image of justice and rule of law in Kosovo”, President Thaçi stressed, adding that these issues must be prioritized and that they are essential to maintain and strengthen confidence in the judiciary in Kosovo.

The importance of the rule of law in the process of EU integration, the functioning of judiciary in the northern part of the country, as well as capacity building of local institutions and the transfer of competencies from the EULEX to Kosovo authorties were among other points that were discussed at the meeting.

“Rule of law and justice are crucial for the comprehensive development of the country, so that the citizens of Kosovo live in dignity and prosperity”, President Thaçi concluded.
