President Thaçi meets representatives of families of missing persons

Thursday, May 5th, 2016 – President of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi met today with the chairman of the Coordinating Council of the Association of Families of Missing Persons in Kosovo, Bajram Çerkinaj, together with the head of the Covernment Commission on Missing Persons of Kosovo, Prenk Gjetaj, as well as other representatives of non-governmental organizations.

President Thaçi said that this association with its work is shedding light on the injustices done and also further enhancing respect for the values of freedom and human rights.

On the other hand, the Chairman of the Coordinating Council of the Association of Families of Missing Persons in Kosovo, Bajram Çerkinaj raised his concern with regards to examination in the Prishtina morgue and lack of search in locations of suspected mass graves.

“We need greater pressure from the international community on the Serbian authorities to bring to light the fate of missing persons”, Çerkinaj said.

Also, the Chairman of the Coordinating Council of the Association of Families of Missing Persons in Kosovo, Bajram Çerkinaj, and the head of the Government Commission on Missing Persons of Kosovo, Prenk Gjetaj requested that the issue of missing persons is raised in all discussions at the international level.

President Thaçi said that the Kosovo institutions, the Coordinating Council of the Association of Families of Missing Persons in Kosovo and other associations representing families of the missing persons are doing their utmost with their capacities to resolve the fate of missing persons, adding that this necessitates more efforts in terms of engagement of the international community.
