President Thaçi meets his Bulgarian counterpart, increased economic cooperation the main focus of discussion

Sofia, June 1st, 2016 – President of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, who is participating at the summit of the Heads of States of South-East-European Cooperation Process (SEECP), also held a bilateral meeting with his Bulgarian counterpart Rosen Plevneliev.

President Thaçi thanked President Plevneliev for the support that the Bulgarian state has given to Kosovo for its membership in international organizations and for Eurpean integration process.

Kosovo’s head of state said that the entry into of the Stabilisation and Association Agreement and the recommendation for visa liberalization are proof of successful and profound reforms that Kosovo is carrying out in buildig its democratic institutions, the economy and the rule of law.
 
“Kosovo has consolidated itself internally and externally. We have become an example of dialogue and cooperation in the region. The dialogue with Serbia has contributed to the integration of the northern part of Kosovo into Kosovo institutions, but it has also reflected in the stabilization of the region”, President Thaçi said, adding that there should also be deepening of cooperation with the regional countries.

President Thaçi requested further support from his Bulgarian counterpart for membership in other international conventions and organizations, such as the Council of Europe.
 
On the other hand, Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev said that Bulgaria and Kosovo have excellent relations and that their cooperation must be expanded in the economic sector.

President Thaçi and President Plevneliev exchanged views on the situation in the Western Balkans and on the region’s development prospects in the politic, economic and other relevant fields.
