President Thaçi meets Austrian counterpart, they discuss the Euro-Atlantic future of Kosovo

Vienna, June 15th, 2016 – President of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi met today in Vienna with his Austrian counterpart, Heinz Fischer.

President Thaçi thanked President Fischer for his contribution and interest for Kosovo and the Balkans in general, over the past 12 years as the head of state, and for Austria’s role in all phases of the creation and building of the state of Kosovo.

Also, President Thaçi informed his Austria counterpart of the political processes in Kosovo, the internal crisis that has been overcome and the agreement regarding the EULEX.

“Kosovo has only one perspective and that is its Euro-Atlantic future. We will work relentlessly to become members of the EU and NATO as soon as possible. We are very grateful for the support you have given us in the integration process, visa liberalization, and we hope that the European Commission will soon take the decision to lift the visa regime for Kosovo”, President Thaçi said.

On the other hand, President Fischer expressed his satisfaction with the recent developments, especially after his last visit to Kosovo, stressing that the political situation in the country has changed and is more relaxed, congratulating President Thaçi about the signing of the Stabilisation and Association Agreement, which marked Kosovo’s entry into contractual relations with the EU, as well as for Kosovo’s membership in the UEFA and FIFA.

President of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi assured his Austrian counterpart that the dialogue with Serbia will continue, that the status for the Association of Serb-majority municipalities will be drafted soon and that all agreements reached in Brussels will be implemented.
