President Thaçi in Sofia: The Kosovars must be equal and feel the integration

Sofia, March 01, 2018 – The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, participated in the meeting of the Western Balkan leaders and the high EU representatives in Sofia, at the invitation of Bulgarian Prime Minister, Boyko Borisov.

President Thaçi, in front of the President of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, the EU High Representative, Federica Mogherini, Commissioner Johannes Hahn and the leaders of the Western Balkans said that Kosovo’s aspirations to join the European Union are the main national priority.

“Our friends in the EU have opened a door for us, but we are the ones who have to go through that door. It is clear that we must help each other to get there sooner. However, we share more than just the good things. There are also many political problems, misunderstandings and complications that we have to solve”, said President Thaçi.
For the citizens of our country, President Thaçi has said it is very important to feel equal and to feel that integration is a reality.
He stressed that the European Commission’s Strategy for the Western Balkans provides a good framework for improving relations within the region and for our integration path.
President Thaçi also spoke about the dialogue on the normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia.
He said that this momentum should be used to reach a legally binding agreement this year, paving the way for the European perspective for both states.
The Head of State also spoke about the importance of deepening economic cooperation between the countries of the region and a better connection with the European market.
