President Thaçi: Ilaz Kodra fought for the freedom of Kosovo, now we have joined forces to further strengthen our country

President of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi attended today the commemoration service on the occasion of the 17th anniversary of the fall of the commander of Brigade 114, Ilaz Kodra.

President Thaçi said that Brigade 114 lead by Fehmi Lladrovci and Ilaz Kodra revealed two fundamental features of the Kosovo Liberation Army, which emerged from the will, ideals and dreams of our people for freedom and independence.

Firstly, President Thaçi said that its leaders were both fighters and commanders, commanders and soldiers, leaders and organizers of the struggle for freedom.

Secondly, he added, the leaders of the Liberation Army, just as the legendary commander Adem Jashari, fell at the forefront of battles.
“Kosovo Liberation Army is rightly considered as the most successful guerilla of the twentieth century. Because our people were the army itself”, President Thaçi stressed.

Today, as we remember Kosovo’s hero, Ilaz Kodra, President Thaçi said that we pay the highest state and institutions honors to one of our very first fighters. “We honor all those who with their vision, persistence, determination and dedication sacrificed their lives for the freedom of Kosovo. We honor those who with their right philosophy and attitude succeeded in securing the support of the democratic world, the United States of America, the European Union and NATO, so that Kosovo is once and for all free, democratic and independent”, he said.

President Thaçi said that he had the honor to know commander Ilaz Kodra and to work closely with him, to recognize the high qualities of the quiet activist, modest in demeanor, but also determined, tireless and indomitable on the road to freedom.

Also, President Thaçi said that he expects good news for Kosovo and its citizens next months and that it is indispensable that we remembers the martyrs when we announce any good news for Kosovo.

“First, we expect the European Commission to announce the date when we will move freely in the old continent, our continent. This will be delayed achievement, but the delay does not diminish the achievement. Ilazi’s children and our children will no longer be stopped at European borders”, President Thaçi said.

Second, President Thaçi said that the other good news is that next year we will send to university the first 18-year-old Kosovans who were born without going through war, without the hard and tragic experience of war.

“Dear family members of friends of Ilaz, Fehmi and Xheva, imagine how much time has passed since they have sacrificed their lives for our freedom, but also how deep is their victory in the war. So we now have the first generation that did not experience evil, free from hatred, their doors are opening in Europe as for no other generation in our history”, President Thaçi added.

In the end, President Thaçi invited all to work together to strengthen the country and enhance the pride of our citizens in our country.

“We will work every day to strengthen the rule of law, so that the country for which Ilaz, Fehmi and Xheva gave their lives is equal for all”, President Thaçi concluded.

The commemoration ceremony on the occasion of the 17th anniversary of the fall of Commander Ilaz Kodra was also attended by the Speaker of Assembly, Kadri Veseli, and Prime Minister of Kosovo, Isa Mustafa, under the auspices of whom the event was organized.
