President Thaçi calls for increased effort to establish the fate of missing persons

President of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi attended today the commemoration of Missing Persons Day in the village of Meje in Gjakova.

Before the family members of the missing persons and other attendess, president Thaçi said that this is not only a week when we recall the pain we have gone through, but it is also a week of pride of the sacrifice of the martyrs of freedom.
 
He said that the village of Meje, where activities organized to mark the Missing Persons concluded today, has always gathered us to remember and never forget the magnitude of pain and sorrow four our loved ones.
 
President Thaçi said that the fate of missing persons remains a gaping wound for our people.
 
“Kosovo institutions, associations representing families of missing persons for years are doing everything they can to lighten their fate. However, for this commitment is not sufficient for this missions, we have to work unceasingly, to involve and engage the international community as much as possible to help in this respect”, president Thaçi said.
 
In the village of Meje in Gjakova president Thaçi said that to work and build a future in which everyone will be equal, we will have to deail with the past.

“We need justice for victims of war. Justice for all victims, regardless of their ethnicity”, he said.

President Thaçi said that Kosovo has shown its willingness to cooperate with everyone, to take any obligation, to uncover and condemn the crimes committed by anyone and anywhere. But, “this should be required from all in our region”, president Thaçi stressed, adding that the involvement of the Serbian state in crimes committed in Kosovo has been proved.
 
“Serbia committed genocide in Kosovo, but our people are determined to turn to a better future for the generations to come”, president Thaçi said.

He concluded that more should be done for its clear European future, for justice for all victims of war and reconciliation.
