President Thaçi attended the “Meetings of Gjeçov” in Zym, Prizren

Zym, October 14, 2017 – The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, participated today in the 46th edition of the literary, cultural and scientific manifestation the “Meetings of Gjeçov”, which is being held in Zym of Has.

On this occasion the Head os State said I am honored that today I am among you to participate in the traditional cultural manifestation the “Meetings of Gjeçov”, here in the legendary Zym, in this emblematic locality of Has.

“I am in the Hasi of covenant, generosity and sacrifice in all periods of Kosovo history”, stressed President Thaçi.

He further said that Zymi has a special history, because this name is related to the tireless work of the prominent patriot of the late National Renaissance phase, with the name of Shtjefën Gjeçovi.

“An intellectual with a rare mind, Father Shjefën Gjeçovi, was a polyhedric figure: an archaeologist, an ethnographer, a collector of folklore, the author of several books and above all collector and organizer of the “Code of Lekë Dukagjini”, of this masterpiece known as the legal and customary code of Albanians for a long time”, said President Thaçi, adding that Father Shtjefën Gjeçovi belongs to the constellation of the most prominent patriots of the three decades of the beginning of the twenty-first century.

“He was in constant contact with the ideator of the independance of Albania, Hasan Prishtina, with Dedë Gjo Luli, Bajram Curri, Azem Bejta and other patriots of the time. Therefore his progressive ideas for national unity despite religious beliefs, the spread of the Albanian book, the links with the intellectuals and the patriots of the time, made him to be assassined one day in an ambush by the anti-Albanian circles, in 1929”, stressed the Head of State.

President Thaçi among other things said that Zymi of Hasi is known as a place with a wild nature, but also as a place from where big national figures arose such as Pjetër Bogdani, Katarina Josipi, Anton Pashku and many intellectuals, who with their work influenced the emancipation of these areas.

“The Hasi of the grand historical, cultural and national figures opened a shining chapter in the war period of the Kosovo Liberation Army. Hasanians did not hesitate at all to join the liberation war”, said President Thaçi, adding the fact that Hasi was the main artery for bringing armaments into Kosovo, but also of freedom fighters.

“Hasi was the battlefield of great wars. Hasi was this arena of battlefields that also urged the international community to think seriously about Kosovo”, added the Head os State, pointing out that “Today, in front of the legendary Pashtriku Mountains, we remember with respect and bend before all the martyrs of Hasi fallen for the freedom and independence of the country”.

He further thanked all the inhabitants of Has for the care and support shown to the fighters of the Kosovo Liberation Army.

“I would like that on personal level but also on an institutional level, to extend my gratitude to each of you, every family here, who cared for all the fighters of the Kosovo Liberation Army, who opened your homes, who showed your generousity and showed your bravery”, said President Thaçi.

He among other things said that “I am a witness of your efforts in your village, in rainy weather, with snow … day, night … but your will, hope, optimism, your courage finally won over the repression of the Serbian army and police. Hasi and Zymi are therefore emblems of the freedom and independence of Kosovo”, said President Thaçi.

In the end, the Head of State said that there is no way to not give consideration to all those intellectuals and activists who kept alive the literary and cultural manifestation the “Meetings of Gjeçov”.
