President Sejdiu held intensive meetings in the course of his visit to the Unites States

President Sejdiu met the President of Malawi

The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Dr. Fatmir Sejdiu, had a friendly meeting with the President of Malawi, Mr. Bingu wa Mutharika, with whom he discussed historic and political developments in Kosovo, presenting him the arguments in favor of independence of Kosovo and its recognition. 

President Mutharika said that the people of Kosovo has the right to be free and independent and to determine his own fate, as any other people in the world. In particular, he said that Kosovo deserves to be independent like all other units of the former Yugoslavia that have won their independence now. He promised that the decision on the recognition of Kosovo by Malawi will be taken very soon and that he looks forward to establishing diplomatic relations and economic cooperation between the two countries.

Prime Minister of Tuvalu promises the recognition of Kosovo’s independence

The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Dr. Fatmir Sejdiu, met the Prime Minister of Tuvalu, Mr. Apisai lelemia, who is also Minister of Foreign Affairs in his country. The meeting discussed recognition of Republic of Kosovo by this country, and President Sejdiu presented convincing arguments for the lawfulness and legality of the declaration of Kosovo’s independence. He invited this state to take a decision on the recognition of Kosovo’s independence as soon as possible, maintaining that such an action would support the right and the will of the people of Kosovo to live in freedom and independence.

Prime Minister lelemia assured President Sejdiu that Kosovo authorities will soon receive the good news of the recognition by Tuvalu. He expressed the readiness of this country to support Kosovo and to strengthen the cooperation between the two countries.

President Sejdiu attended the ceremony celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Organization of Islamic Conference   

President Sejdiu attended a reception staged by the Organization of Islamic Conference on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of this organization’s establishment. Besides meeting the Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Conference, President Sejdiu seized this opportunity to talk with the President of Somalia, the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kuwait, the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lebanon.

During these talks, President Sejdiu reiterated the importance of the recognition of Kosovo by the states that have not made this step yet, for, he maintained, this would provide new opportunities for development and cooperation and would contribute to peace and stability in the region and all around Europe.

President Sejdiu handed the “Hands of Hope Award” to President Ahtisaari given to him by the NAAC

At the annual awards dinner hosted by the National Albanian American Council (NAAC), President Sejdiu handed the “Hands of Hope Award” to President Ahtisaari, which the NAAC conferred upon the latter. 

In his instruction to President Ahtisaari, President Sejdiu emphasized the historic significance that the receiver of this award has for Republic of Kosovo and its people. President Sejdiu expressed his high appreciation for President Ahtisaari’s role in ensuring peace and freedom in many countries of the world and in Kosovo in particular. 

Having received the award, President Ahtisaari said that Kosovo’s independence is a chance to correct the mistakes of the past. He continued by saying hat Kosovo is and will always remain independent.

President Sejdiu met with leaders of APEN

President Sejdiu also met with young Albanian-American professionals who lead their own association called the Albanian-American Professionals and Entrepreneurs Network (APEN).  In this friendly meeting, President Sejdiu invited them to share their experiences with their colleagues in Kosovo and to boost the cooperation and share their experiences with them in every field, so as to set the stage for providing their contribution in the development of Kosovo.
