President Sejdiu attended the event marking the first anniversary of EULEX deployment in Kosovo

The President of Republic of Kosovo, Dr. Fatmir Sejdiu, attended the event celebrating the first anniversary of the deployment of EULEX Mission in Kosovo.

In a keynote speech, Sejdiu thanked the leaders of the mission and the countries they come from for the constant support that they are providing to Kosovo and for their good cooperation.

“A great work was done during a year of arduous challenges for Kosovo, as we have chosen the right way, the way of cooperation and mutual understanding. This was a result of a great and unwavering support that was provided to Kosovo. This was a result of the good will that was shown by all the countries that are a part of EULEX and of their vast investment in Kosovo. It was also a result of positive developments that we have fostered together over the least 10 years and over the last two years of independence in particular” – President Sejdiu stated.

President Sejdiu told the audience that Kosovo will keep on moving towards its accession to the major international institutions and will continue to cooperate with all the countries that support Kosovo, so as to make the road to becoming a member of the EU and NATO shorter.

“Together with you, Kosovo will keep on moving on its journey towards accomplishing its objective of becoming a member of the European Union and NATO. Oftentimes, people ask how long will this journey be? We will work on it and we will make this journey shorter if we retain the current spirit of cooperation. We are cognizant of the requirements that we must meet. These requirements include a better life for all the citizens of the Republic of Kosovo, prevention of misdemeanors, rule of law and respect of Constitution and domestic legislation. I can not think of a man in Kosovo who does not wish Kosovo to be a treasured homeland and a country that offers a better perspective for everyone, and this is the platform to Europe and democracy” – Sejdiu added.

President Sejdiu stated that the spirit of cooperation and unwavering support that the international community was providing to Kosovo was proven yet again during the proceedings that were conducted at the International Court of Justice.

“Hereby, I would like to express my appreciation to the Council of Europe for its resolute commitment to foster a faster growth in Kosovo. Significant developments for Kosovo are taking place these days. A strong support is coming from all the countries that have recognized and supported Kosovo at the International Court of Justice. The United States of America, the European Union and all world’s democracies know exactly why Kosovo is independent and they also know that the will of its free people was respected. Therefore, Your Excellencies are kindly asked to convey our appreciation to your governments. Tell them that we are going to live in peace and that we are going to be partners of peace and security with all the countries of the region and with all our neighbors. This is what we can do and this is the message that we want to convey” – President Sejdiu pointed out.
