President Sejdiu and Prime Minister Thaçi: Any debate or discussion about the protocol ends today

Kosovo’s President, Dr. Fatmir Sejdiu, and Kosovo’s Prime Minister, Hashim Thaçi, had a meeting today with the Head of ICO, Peter Faith, and Head of EULEX, Yves de Kermabon. The meeting was also attended by the Deputy Prime Minister Hajredin Kuqi and the Minister of Foreign Affairs Skender Hyseni. The meeting involved a comprehensive discussion on the general state of affairs in Kosovo, with a special emphasis on the situation created as a result of the so-called Protocol of Cooperation with the Republic of Serbia.

During the meeting, the Kosovo leaders reiterated their final position opposing the protocol and asserted that any debate or discussion about this issue today ends today. Kosovo institutions are sovereign institutions and, accordingly, take sovereign decisions in compliance with country’s Constitution and legislation. The Republic of Kosovo shall not assume any obligation or responsibility for issues on which it has not taken a sovereign decision.

During the meeting with Mr. Faith and Mr. Kermabon, the leaders of Republic of Kosovo’s institutions avowed that they will cooperate closely with EULEX and ICO, in behalf of all the people of the Republic of Kosovo. It was noted that the situation in Mitrovica is unacceptable and that a suitable environment must be created for an uninhibited return of the all the citizens to their estates and for the reconstruction of their houses. The violence displayed in Mitrovica and the demolition of EULEX property is unacceptable and the people of Kosovo strongly condemn it” – was one of the statements made in the course of today’s meeting.
