President of the Portuguese Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, has sent a letter of congratulations to the President of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, in which he wrote that the election of president Thaçi represents an important step and an encouraging sign for the Republic of Kosovo in the path to peace, stability, integrity and social and economic progress.

Upon the occasion of the inauguration of Your Excellency as President of the Republic of Kosovo, I wish to convey to Your Excellency, on behalf of the Portuguese People and in my own name, warm congratulations and wishes for success.
The election of Your Excellency represents an important step and an encouraging sign for the Republic of Kosovo in the path to peace, stability, integrity and social and economic progress. I express the hope that during Your Excellency’s mandate new opportunities will be found to develop and deepen the ties of friendship and of cooperation that bind our two countries.
