President Jahjaga received Governor Howard Dean

The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Mrs. Atifete Jahjaga received today Governor Howard Dean, former chairman of the DNC (Democratic National Committee) and former U.S. presidential candidate.

President Jahjaga said that the connection and friendship with the United States is deep and steadfast. She praised the strong support of the United States for the freedom the independence and the democracy in Kosovo. The President said the U.S. role in the Balkans remains crucial and irreplaceable for the stability and development of the region and for the process of its Euro-Atlantic integration.

She said that as President of the Republic of Kosovo she is fully committed to work for the democratic functioning the institutions of Kosovo and that our institutions are transparent and responsible.

President Jahjaga during the meeting said that free and democratic elections are the foundation of democracy and the necessary condition for open and responsible institutions.

“Free and fair elections can be held not only by improving the law but by implementing it,” she said.

Governor Howard Dean, after having congratulated the President on her election, emphasized the importance of engaging all institutions for the constitutional amendments and the electoral reform. He also praised the overall work and commitment of the institutions of the country in performing their duties.
