President Jahjaga: Law and order to be applied in the whole territory of the country

Today, the President of the Republic of Kosovo, Mrs. Atifete Jahjaga, with the return from a three-day state visit to Hungary, had a meeting with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Mr. Hashim Thaçi, who informed her about the operational plan of the Government of Kosovo on functionalizing the customs checkpoints on the border between the Republic of Kosovo and the Republic of Serbia.

The President of Kosovo within her constitutional function gave full support to the Kosovo Government Plan to implement the government decision on Trade Relations with Serbia, which is fully coordinated with the international community and that it is result of the agreement reached in Brussels in the dialogue between Serbia and Kosovo, which was mediated and approved by the EU
.
Putting in function of the customs is a legal and legitimate act supported by the international community and the mission of KFOR and EULEX in Kosovo, who will provide full support and assistance, within their mandate, in the implementation of law and order in the Republic of Kosovo.

This is to the benefit of all the citizens of Kosovo, especially to the benefit of the citizens of Serbian nationality, who live in the municipalities Leposavic, Zubin Potok and Zvecan, because in this manner, the smuggling route and organized crime that damage not only the budget of Kosovo and Serbia’s economy, but also the household economy and the interests of the citizens to develop legitimate business by respecting the payment of relevant customs and tax on import and export of goods crossing the border points, are definitely stopped.

By this fair business is helped, which is also a desire of all the citizens and the way of informal economy beneficiaries who earn at the expense of taxpayers and the state is interrupted.

We encourage all the citizens to support these measures of the Government of the Republic of Kosovo and we request from the Serbian authorities to renounce manipulations with the feelings of the citizens and to respect the agreements to which people have agreed upon in the dialogue in Brussels.

The future of our two countries is in respecting each other and in the application of the rule of law in the development of normal trade relations between the Republic of Kosovo and the Republic of Serbia, as two sovereign and independent states, which have a joint future in Euro-Atlantic integrations.
