President Atifete Jahjaga visited the survivor of the Restelica tragedy

Today, in the regional hospital of Prizren, the President of the Republic of Kosovo, Madame Atifete Jahjaga visited, Asmira Reka, the only survivor of the tragedy caused due to bad weather in the village of Restelica, municipality of Dragash, in which the members of the family Reka suffered.

During the visit, President Jahjaga, accompanied by the mayor of Prizren, Mr. Ramadan Muja, was informed about the condition of Asmira, and at the same thanked the doctors and the hospital staff for the mobilization and the care they are offering to the citizens of Restelica, as well as to all the inhabitants of the other villages threatened by the fallen snow during the recent days throughout Kosovo.

President Jahjaga consoled the Reka family and all the citizens of Kosovo for this tragic and sad loss of the human lives. She called upon the citizens that in these difficult weather conditions through which our country is passing, to show solidarity and to come to support each other, promising that the aid of the Kosovo institutions will not fail.

President Jahjaga particularly singled out the hard work of the Kosovo Security Force, the Kosovo Police, KFOR and voluntary citizens for their continuous efforts to open the road and to come to the aid to the isolated people in Restelica.

On this occasion, President Jahjaga allocated 10.000 Euros from the fund of the Office of the President to help address the immediate needs of the affected families of the village Restelica.

Below is the statement of the President during her visit in Hospital of Prizren:

The loss of human lives due to the avalanche of snow, an elementary unpredictable disaster, is a grave tragedy. I would like to express my profound condolences to the families. They will have institutional support and aid for repairing the consequences of this disaster.

I thank the the Kosovo Security Force, the Kosovo Police, KFOR and the residents for all the assistance offered in saving lives and finding the bodies. This proves the unsparing solidarity of the people who are close to each other in such situations.

I express gratitude to them for all their commitment in this extraordinary situation which has overwhelmed the village of Restelica. The KSF and the KP showed dedication and professionalism and that they are capable to face such situations, for what they are trained and qualified.

Once again I express my condolences to the families and residents of the village Restelica. I and all the people of Kosovo are with them and sympathize with them.
