Letter of Condolence on the Death of Din Mehmeti

I was deeply saddened to receive the news on the passing of the poet Din Mehmeti. I am proud to confess that his poems have inspired and filled me with courage during the most difficult war times.

The man who writes and says loudly “Fire shot is my name” and seals the warrior’s epitaph with the words: “I’d rather not live without dying for this land”, not only denies death, but even challenges it: “Death I don’t sign”.

Certain that his poetic art will live forever, I convey, on this occasion, my heartfelt condolences to his family, the community of artists and all the people who love the Albanian arts and poetry, to which our Great Brother has bequeathed unique lyrical values, ideas and messages.
