Latvia supports Republic of Kosovo’s aspirations to get integrated into Euro-Atlantic community

“We have followed Latvia’s and other Baltic countries’ journey to freedom and Euro-Atlantic integration attentively and with a special admiration and we believe that we can draw on your experience in accomplishing our aims” – the President of the Republic of Kosovo, Dr. Fatmir Sejdiu, said during a meeting today with Ambassador Juris Poikans, who will represent Latvia in Pristina as of today, while it will remain Latvia’s Residential Ambassador in Ljubljana.

Congratulating Ambassador Poikans on his new assignment, President Sejdiu said that Latvia has unreservedly supported Kosovo people’s aspirations for freedom and independence and efforts made by its institutions to strengthen democracy and legal order in the country.

On the other hand, Ambassador Poikans said that he is proud to be the first Latvian Ambassador in Kosovo and that he will do his utmost to boost cooperation between the two countries, by fostering exchanges and joint agreements in all fields of life.

“I believe our experience may help Republic of Kosovo accomplish its objective of becoming a part of EU and NATO as soon as possible and we are ready to provide our assistance in this regard” – ambassador Poikans affirmed.
